It's Alive: Projects

Under the guidance of a graduate student, I worked on a project called, It's Alive. Over three months, our team of four worked together to transform It's Alive into a fully released game.

I worked mainly on the high scores, UI, game preview screen, and monster gallery.

Game Concepts:

The main gameplay is to place blocks to create monsters. The blocks drop one at a time and you must rotate pieces to connect them. There are 3 main pieces: heads, hearts, and body. For a monster to come alive, you must connect at least one head and heart pieces together. A head piece has one connectable side while a heart piece has two. Body pieces are used to extend the monster. These body pieces have 1 to 4 connectable sides depending on the piece.

Different connectable blocks and a random block drop allows for unique and different monsters and gameplay. There are currently three game modes as well as three game speeds. The Regular mode allows you to connect blocks of any color, while the Monochrome mode allows only monsters of the same color to come alive. In the Tenacious mode, monsters will only come to life when they have at least ten connected blocks.

You can play the game on Kongregate.
