When his grandfather goes missing, Juanito travels into the forest on a spiritual and cultural adventure riddled with the remnants of his Mesoamerican heritage.

Juanito el Nahualito: Projects

In a team of 21 people, we created Juanito El Nahualito with the goal of creating a narrative-driven game that represented Mesoamerican culture through a non-stereotyped lens.

As the Programming Lead, I had to wear many hats in development. I attended many meetings with the production, art, music, and narrative teams to discuss game features.

My notable contributions to the project:

Collaboratively designed game puzzles and interactions
Created Animal behaviors and AI
Scripted puzzles in Act 1 and Act 2
Delegated and organized tasks for four other programmers as well as assisting them if needed.

Game Concepts:

You venture through the forests as Juanito as he searches for his grandfather. Through his family heritage, Juanito is given the powers of a Nahual and is able to communicate with animals on a spirtual level. The player can enter spirit mode to connect with the animal and clear obstacles.

There are also numerous puzzles scattered through out the forest for Juanito to complete such as piece placement and rotating statues.
